Happy Birthday Unspeakable Horror!
Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 09:35PM I launched Unspeakable Horror one year ago yesterday! Happy Birthday, you nasty thing! It has been an amazing year with many surprises and many interesting contacts with horror writers. That's my favorite thing about this website -- all of the writers I have corresponded with over the past year. And a special thanks to Vince Liaguno for writing awesome columns and doing a fantastic job promoting Unspeakable Horror! I have a whole new respect for the slasher genre!
I can't believe an entire year has gone by. I feel like there is still so much to explore in the field of the Queer Horror genre. In some ways, I feel like I just started writing about it. There is still so much to analyze and consider -- classic books and films (I have hardly touched Clive Barker, and I have never read Lost Souls, which queerhorror.com mentions as a must-read!), as well as newly skyrocketing authors like Lee Thomas. And many new titles from Positronic Press (you guys are awesome). And so many movies to see!
There have been a few rough times this past year when it was difficult to find time to feed and care for Unspeakable Horror, and the website took many unexpected turns and transformations. The mission and purpose of the website changed directions numerous times, but now I feel like it is going stronger than ever, with many exciting things coming up in the near future, and I am very excited about my new commitment to writing the horror-movie-poems and continuing to write blog-essays about Queer Horror and developing my ongoing Queer Horror manifesto, which will someday be a book!
To celebrate, here are a few of my favorite posts of the year:
The Shining's Dogman (this one's my absolute favorite)
