Awesome Things Happening!
Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 12:26PM There are so many awesome things happening in the world of Queer Horror -- I can barely begin to keep up with everything. Here are a few of the highlights (let me know if you know about something that I'm missing -- has anyone heard about any upcoming films? It seems like all the Queer Horror action is happening in literary circles.):
Rick R. Reed's new release, IM, is not only receiving a lot of rave reviews, but also a lot of media attention. I've read several of Rick's recent interviews, and he is doing an awesome job spreading the word about Queer Horror and educating readers about what distinguishes gay/queer horror from other branches of the horror genre. He is definitely emerging as a "spokesman" for the genre, and I think that's a wonderful thing.
Positronic Press is on fire! The editor for Positronic is Greg Herren, an awesome writer himself, and the press (an imprint of Haworth) has recently released a series of groundbreaking Queer Horror titles, including Vintage, The Very Bloody Marys, and The Master of Seacliff (actually released under Harrington Park, another Haworth imprint). In addition to these excellent titles, they will also be releasing a new collection of Lee Thomas' short horror fiction in the upcoming year (not yet available). Click the cover icons on the right "featured books" column to purchase these titles.
Speaking of Lee Thomas, his career is skyrocketing! I'm not only excited about his upcoming Positronic collection, but his new hardcover novel Dust of Wonderland will also be out from Alyson in a few months (yes that's right -- Queer Horror is graduating to hardcover!). Dust of Wonderland reviews are coming in, and it sounds like it is a major achievement in the genre. I think we can expect awesome things from Lee Thomas. His YA series Wicked Dead will also be hitting the shelves this summer.
In addition to Positronic, another publisher is making its mark in the world of Queer Horror. STARbooks press, known for its erotica, is releasing two promising Queer Horror titles: The Werewolves of Central Park by Tom Cardamone and Closet Monsters by Daniel W. Kelly (cover featured above). These titles are perfect for readers who like their Queer Horror mixed with hot gay sex! Both of these titles have featured excerpts on the latest issue of Velvet Mafia, so you can read before you buy.
Don't forget about the upcoming anthology of Queer Horror from Unspeakable Horror and Dark Scribe Press. Visit the submissions page for information on this anthology (a dream come true for all of us at UH). The submissions period is coming up sooner than you think!
Help support Unspeakable Horror and purchase your Queer Horror by clicking on the cover icons in the right-hand column. Add a comment to this entry if there is something that should be featured on Unspeakable Horror, but you can't find it. Help me keep up on this exploding sub-genre. It is an exciting time to be a Queer Horror author!
There are just too many things to link to in the preceding entry, but you can find links to almost all of the stuff I mentioned in the right-hand column of the website under "featured books" and "links." Thanks for your support!
Just in case you didn't know -- Positronic Press is no more! When the parent company, Haworth, was sold, they didn't keep the gay imprints.
