Happy Second Birthday Unspeakable Horror!
Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 12:02PM Amazing! It's the second birthday of Unspeakable Horror. My life has changed dramatically in the last two years, and a lot of those changes are a direct and indirect result of this website. Mainly, this website has given me hope and confidence as a writer, and all of the other changes have followed directly from that.
Here are some of the highlights:
After starting this website in 2006, I began corresponding with the brightest talents in the world of Queer Horror. I quickly discovered that gay horror writers are some of the nicest folks out there!
I met Vince Liaguno, author of The Literary Six, and we began a literary collaboration that is now culminating in our first Queer Horror anthology, Unspeakable Horror: From the Shadows of the Closet. We still have a few months of submissions ahead!
I self-published my first book of poetry, The Pop-Up Book of Death.
I met Darren Davis, publisher of Bluewater Comics, and I pitched him the idea for a comic book miniseries, Bartholomew of the Scissors.
I published five flash-fiction stories at The Harrow.
Vince Liaguno launched Dark Scribe Press and Dark Scribe Magazine.
I sold a flash-fiction story to a production company in Los Angeles for 500 bucks. They ran across the story on this website!
I started working more closely with Bluewater, and I am now working on new projects like Plan 9 From Outer Space Strikes Again, and a super-exciting project that is still hush-hush, but I am very excited to break the news here when Bluewater does the press release in the very near future.
I launched Bartholomew of the Scissors dot com to promote the forthcoming release of the comic from Bluewater.
To celebrate two years of Unspeakable Horror, I added some major new components: a blog dedicated to Campy Horror Comics and a blog dedicated to Undead Poetry. I also created a couple of new yahoo groups to correspond to these blogs. Please click the links and join. As always, I will continue to blog about Queer Horror here.
After two years of writing on this website, the entry I wrote about the dogman in The Shining is still the most visited page. Weird, huh? Lots of people search in google with keywords about that weird scene, and they end up finding this site. Something about that scene must really capture people's interest.
Thank you for your readership and support. And thanks especially to my literary collaborator, Vince Liaguno, for supporting this site and providing inspiration when I really needed it.
Unspeakable Horror Lives!
Another exciting item to add to the list.
Doorways magazine has accepted one of my horror poems. More info to follow when I find out which issue.
I'm very proud to be in excellent literary company in this magazine!
I decided to combine the Campy Horror, Undead Poetry, and Queer Horror elements all into the one central blog/journal. I think that makes it easier to maintain a consistent readership. Sorry for any confusion.
