    "Memento Mori" by Elissa Malcohn

Dark Scribe Press is pleased to announce the inclusion of “Memento Mori,” an original work of short fiction by Elissa Malcohn, in the Unspeakable Horror: From the Shadows of the Closet anthology.

Elissa Malcohn thanks the Cambridge (MA) Women's Center's "Women Writing" group for inspiring "Memento Mori" and credits that same group with introducing her to her partner, Mary C. Russell. A 1985 John W. Campbell Award finalist and four-time Rhysling Award nominee, Elissa edited Star*Line (Science Fiction Poetry Association) from 1986-1988 and has appeared in Amazing, Asimov's, Full Spectrum (Bantam), Tales of the Unanticipated, and elsewhere. Stories forthcoming include those in Electric Velocipede #14, Helix, and Riffing on Strings: Creative Writing Inspired by String Theory (Scriblerus Press). Covenant, the first volume in her Deviations series, is available from Aisling Press. The second volume, Appetite, will debut in 2008.

In 1995 Elissa participated in the first Boston-New York AIDS Ride, bicycling from her adopted to her home town. She currently lives in central Florida, where she and Mary are involved with the Art Center of Citrus County, Florida State Poets Association, and Equality Florida. When not writing, Elissa can be found photographing insects at the local strip mall or singing extemporaneously at open mics.
